FAQ

Q: How do I use a designer?
A: We meet with you to determine your design needs. You might be re-decorating, you might be re-modeling, you might be building a new home.  Here’s what you need to do to make the most of our meeting(s);

1. Gather pictures (from shelter magazines) of what you like and don’t like. Gather swatches of things you think you might like to use.

2. Write down your goals, even if they are different than your spouse’s. We will want to know how long you plan to live in your home. Do you have pets or children? What are your hobbies? Do you entertain? All of this goes in to how we design for you.

3. Write down your budget or how you plan to pay for these home improvements. We will discuss all of these things.

We charge at an hourly rate for consultation and research. Unless its unusual, we do not charge for travel time. An option for new construction, is a fee based on the square feet of the structure. This way you will have definite budget. We can outline what you will receive for the fee.

Many budgets are stretched to the limit within the building process and homeowner is not aware what it will take to put blinds (or shutters) on a window or durable floor covering on the family room floor. Not all, but many builders are concerned about one thing, completing the construction of your home.

If you work solely with the builder, you may end up with a wonderful house with no window coverings, towels in the bath, or furniture to relax on. Include your design conversations with an interior designer early,  in your planning process. We like to work along with a builder or architect to make sure you will end up with the interior you are thinking of.

Q: How do I prepare for our meeting?
A: First of all – if you have a spouse or partner, they need to be included in our meetings. From experience, this is a mistake, if they are not included. Both of you, and the family, needs to be involved. Everyone lives in the space, everyone uses the space. Everyone’s needs will be considered to have a solution that works for everyone. Plan a time that you both can meet. If children’s room’s are involved, we will need to involve them as well, at the right time.

1. Gather pictures (from shelter magazines) of what you like and what you don’t like. Gather any swatches of things you have already found that you think you might like to use.

2. Write down your goals, even if they are different than your spouses goals. I will want to know – how long you plan to stay in your home? Do you have pets? What are your hobbies? Do you entertain and how?  These all determine what we will do!

A relationship with an interior designer, especially on a new building project and remodels become an intimate working relationship. We need to know how you live, to create a successful space. We are happy to provide a free, one-hour consultation/meeting to see if you feel comfortable with our working style and meeting your needs. Please feel free to request this!
